Safer Eating and Nutrition

In September 2025, the Department for Education (DfE) will implement significant reforms to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, introducing a new "Safer Eating" section to enhance food safety and nutrition in early years settings.

School Lunches

We encourage families to take advantage of our nutritious school lunch options, which are carefully planned to meet national healthy eating standards and support your child’s development.

Our menus offer a variety of well-balanced meals each day, including fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, and healthy sources of protein - helping children to stay full, focused, and energised throughout the afternoon.

Choosing a school lunch not only saves time at home but also introduces children to a wide range of foods, encouraging healthy eating habits from an early age. All meals are prepared with food safety in mind, and we are happy to accommodate allergies, intolerances, or cultural dietary needs.

We’re proud to create a positive, family-style lunchtime experience where children eat together, try new things, and develop good table manners - all part of our commitment to building strong foundations for healthy living.

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are entitled to a free school lunch every day under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.

This means that every child in these year groups can enjoy a healthy, balanced meal at no cost to families - regardless of income or eligibility for other benefits.

Lunchboxes from Home

As part of our commitment to supporting children’s health and well-being - and in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education - we ask that lunchboxes from home follow a healthy eating approach. A balanced lunchbox helps your child stay focused, energised, and ready to learn. We encourage a variety of foods such as fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, dairy, and a healthy source of protein.

Please avoid items that are high in sugar or salt, and we kindly ask that you do not include fizzy drinks or sweets.

In line with safer eating guidelines, all food must be easy to eat and cut into safe, manageable pieces to reduce the risk of choking (e.g. grapes should be cut lengthways, and cherry tomatoes halved). As always, we are a nut-free school, so please ensure no nuts or nut-based products are included.

If you have any questions about suitable options or your child has allergies or dietary needs, please speak to a member of staff - we’re happy to help.
