The times tables are a key element in building confidence in mathematical calculations, they are like the alphabet of maths.  Fluent and quick recall of the times tables facts will really improve your child's ability to tackle all areas of the maths curriculum. 

 

Your child should know their log-in for the Times Tables Rock Stars site.  If they do not have it, send a message via Twitter and we will send it directly to you.  In order to get a baseline score children need to complete 10 games as a single player in the Studio.  After that, their target is to move up the levels as a single player in the Garage.  There are quite a lot of levels for each table, both multiplication and division so set the length of game to 1 minute (this can be found by clicking on the V under the 'play solo' icon). As they move up the levels new tables will be unlocked.

 

Just ten minutes per day will greatly increase their fluency and speed of recollection.

The creators of Times Table Rock Stars have given us free access to their Numbots site until 23rd June.  The link is below.  Children can use their usual log in details to access the games.  It does start off very basic but does then build up to the addition and subtraction of any two 2-digit numbers.  Quite useful for building up fluency and you get to build robots too!
