Fractions

Our next topic in maths is fractions.  Confidence in fractions can make lots of other areas of maths more accessible later on, such as ratio and working with percentages. Children start working with fractions right from year one.  It is important that they have grasped the Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2) basics before we try to move them on.  For that reason we have uploaded the learning blocks for all three year groups.  It would be useful to revisit the Key Stage 1 learning to ascertain your child's current level of understanding before having a go at the Year 3 work.

So that you are not overloaded with paper and wasting ink, work through the KS1 sheets verbally. If they have grasped the concept they will be able to fly through these sheets explaining their answers and the thinking behind them.  Warning!  The year 1 content moves very slowly.  There are 12 parts to the year 2 content, but they all deal with different aspects of working with fractions so it is worth looking at them all.

There are only 4 days worth of Year 3 work this week.
