Today, we will introduce the multiplication symbol (x).  A useful way to think of this is as meaning "groups of", eg. 3 x 2 is 3 "groups of" 2.

Drawing out the groups can help children to visualise this, then writing the addition also helps them to identify "how many groups and of which size" they have.

For the practical activity, children can draw the groups and write the number sentences in the back of their green book.
