Year Three

Year Three marks an exciting step as children begin their journey into Key Stage 2, building greater independence, resilience and confidence in their learning. As expectations gradually increase, pupils are encouraged to take more ownership of their work, develop deeper thinking skills and apply their learning across a broad and engaging curriculum. Lessons continue to be creative and interactive, supporting curiosity, exploration and enjoyment within a caring and nurturing environment.

We are fortunate to have two fantastic Year 3 classes. Alligators are taught by Miss Adams, who is currently on maternity leave, with the class being covered by Mrs Davis and Mr Woodfield. Foxes are taught by Mr Frerichs. Our teaching team works closely together to ensure consistency and continuity, helping every child feel secure, supported and confident as they settle into Key Stage 2.

We are also supported by our dedicated Teaching Assistants: Mrs DeHoest, Mrs Jamieson, Mrs Keaney and Miss Cousins. They work alongside the class teachers to provide encouragement, guidance and additional support where needed, ensuring all children are able to access learning and feel valued throughout the school day.

We look forward to a successful and rewarding year in Year 3, full of challenge, discovery and growth, as children continue to develop both academically and personally.

Year Three Spellings: New Approach Entering Key Stage 2 (KS2)

Using the Sounds Write approach, at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School we focus on spelling polysyllabic words and homophones/homographs using our phonic knowledge.

In Year 3, we focus on a sound and its various spellings over two weeks. We will focus in class on spelling polysyllabic words using a sound and syllable approach. In lessons, we will give children an opportunity to apply their skills and spellings in written sentences.

We do not set weekly spellings, but do send the sound home in their home contact books to communicate the learning we are doing in school.

 Times Tables

Times-tables knowledge is a really important part of KS2; please make sure that your child practises regularly, especially engaging regular use of Times Tables Rockstars. For more information, please visit our Maths Curriculum Page, link below.

Online Safety

Online safety is more important than ever in today’s digital world. As students spend more time learning, socialising, and exploring online, it’s essential they understand how to stay safe, protect their personal information, and make responsible choices.

We encourage all students, parents, and carers to take a moment to visit our dedicated online safety webpage, where you’ll find helpful guidance, resources, and tips to support safe and positive online experiences.
