Year Two

Year Two is an exciting and important year in your child’s learning journey, where children continue to build confidence, independence and a growing sense of responsibility. Building on the strong foundations from Year 1, pupils are encouraged to become more reflective learners, deepen their understanding and develop key skills across the curriculum. Learning remains engaging and hands-on, with plenty of opportunities for creativity, exploration and discovery within a supportive and nurturing environment that is rooted in our Christian ethos of care, aspiration, resilience and enjoyment.

At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, we nurture every child’s unique potential and encourage them to Explore, think aloud, collaborate, create and take risks, guided by our values and the belief that all pupils should feel valued, confident and inspired to reach for the stars.

We are lucky to have two wonderful Year 2 classes. Meerkats are taught by Mrs Minshell, and Puffins are taught by Miss Price and Mrs Eliade. Our class teachers work closely together to ensure consistency, high expectations and a positive learning experience for every child, helping them to feel happy, safe and valued while striving to reach their full potential academically, socially and spiritually.

In Year 2, children continue to follow the statutory National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, building on knowledge and skills across subjects including English, maths, science, design and technology and more. While schools may choose how to assess pupils during Year 2, we utilise routine teacher assessments to reflect progress in core areas such as reading, writing, mathematics and science by the end of the key stage.

We are also supported by our fantastic team of Teaching Assistants: Mrs Jamieson, Mrs Petronela, Mrs Arshad, Mrs Hayward, Mrs Powlett and Mrs Howlett. They work closely with the teachers to provide care, encouragement and additional support throughout the school day, ensuring every child feels confident and well supported in their learning.

We look forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth and achievement in Year 2, filled with curiosity, challenge and lots of happy moments along the way.
